What does it take to be happy? I can honestly say I don't know many people who are truly content with their life. I have yet to find the secret of devout satisfaction or a sincere individual who (without the help of happy pills or some type of drug) can say they are totally and completely happy. Maybe it’s the location I grew up in, or maybe this consistency can be found in the majority of places. We always want more, we give and give and don’t get enough back and the result is a lifetime of suffering or some sort of unfulfilled emptiness. Where is this theatrical happy ending? Is the human race being punished for decades of scam, war, malicious endeavors of hate, and a simple lack of love and respect for one another? We need to forget who and why and ask ourselves HOW? How can we be better? How can we improve our existence both individually and as a society? How can we live each day to the fullest and have a purpose rather than a meaningless 60-100 years of mundane survival. Lets hypothetically say the apocalypse happens. How pissed would we be?
I regret to admit, I don’t have any of these answers. I’m lost and scared and vulnerable. I’m young, naïve, and I’ve never fully been able to trust anyone other than myself. I do believe there is much more bad than good in the world. But through the clouds, there are always darker clouds, more rain, and eventually, when you least expect it, the sun.
I can offer you this insight. Take the world for what it is. No one really knows why we’re here or what happens when we’re gone or exactly how long we have to be here. We have our theories and our individual religions to help fill in the gaps but in the end religion is just a theory, based on stories passed down from generation to generation and exploding with a lack of scientific evidence. However, we do know that things happen for a reason and most importantly, I like to believe we were all born for a reason. As cliché as it sounds, we all have a destiny to find what it is that makes us happy. Perhaps the words happiness and the concept of balance have a symbiotic link, one in which happiness occurs as a result of complete balance in all areas of life, or rather the existence of equivalent fulfillment in each sector of existence. Relationships including family, friends, lovers, and significant others must be in direct equivalence to success, money, and health.
In order for our bodies to sustain homeostasis, they must be balanced, and I believe the same is true for each of our lives. Maybe if we find that balance through trial and error or simply taking chances and risks we can attempt to achieve a steady equilibrium. People always say, don’t be scared to try new things. Be a “yes man” as opposed to a downer who says no to every new opportunity the universe sends them.
